Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We evaluated the association between the medical expenditure and social capital among Japanese community-dwelling adults in a prospective cohort study. The subjects of this study are the person that responded the mail survey conducted by a town in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan in October 2011. The number of the respondents insured by the National Health Insurance or the medical system for the elderly aged 75 years and older was 8092 and 4177 gave written consent to this study. We excluded 364 subjects because of loss of follow up. The sum of total direct medical expense obtained from health insurance claims and the cost of long-term care insurance from April 2013 to March 2014 were evaluated. Logistic regression model adjusting sex, age, social capital ,and self-rated health were used for calculating odds ratios for top 10% high medical expenditure.
