Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Serum hormone concentrations in adult males vary in a circadian manner. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between circadian variation of serum hormones and prostate disease in patients under well-controlled conditions who are hospitalized for undergoing a prostate needle biopsy. This study included 109 patients undergoing prostate biopsy. Blood samples were collected for hormone determination twice in morning and afternoon. Serum DHEA-S concentration in the morning was lower in prostate cancer than non-cancer patients. The variation of melatonin was smaller in prostate cancer than non-cancer patients. Clock genes PER2 and CLK were well expressed in the needle biopsy specimen, but there were no significant relation with prostate diseases.
