新奇ポリマー修飾単層カーボンナノチューブ作成とそのデバイス応用

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

ポリマーとカーボンナノチューブとの相互作用を利用した合成後の選択的除去技術の開発を進めた.ポリマーでコーティングしたカーボンナノチューブに電極を取り付け,直流電流を流すことによりジュール加熱を行う.電流が流れやすい金属的カーボンナノチューブが加熱されることで,金属的カーボンナノチューブのみが酸化し焼失することになる.この時,カーボンナノチューブがポリマーによって囲まれている方が,より長範囲に渡る焼失が起きることが分かった.この時,カーボンナノチューブとポリマー,基板(シリコン)との界面における接触熱抵抗や,燃焼速度などを考慮したモデルを構築し,焼失による除去長さが変化するメカニズムについての考察を行った.
さらに,ジュール加熱条件を吟味することにより,ポリマーコーティングだけではなく,その周囲環境条件も除去長さに影響を与えることが明らかになった.
大気雰囲気中および湿り酸素ガス中で,金属カーボンナノチューブ除去実験を行ったところ,湿り酸素ガス中の方において除去長さが著しく長くなることが分かった.このことは,金属的カーボンナノチューブのジュール加熱による酸化除去現象に,酸素および水分子が関与していることを示唆している.今後,より詳細に実験条件を検討することにより,単層カーボンナノチューブとポリマーだけでなく,酸素や水分子とのナノスケールでの相互作用についての知見が得られると考える.
逆に,除去長さを短く制御することで,カーボンナノチューブの一部のみを除去することも可能になる.これを利用してナノギャップを作製し,このギャップ間での電子の電界放出の計測も行った.ナノサイズの隙間を持ち対向するナノチューブ間の電界放出現象であり,学術的にも非常に興味深い結果を得ることができた.
