回折限界を打破する偏光ホログラムメモリシステムの研究開発

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical Systems)とレーザアレイのハイブリッド構造を採り、インターリブ方式を用いることで超高速な読み出しが可能な非回転式のホログラムストレージシステムを開発することを目指している。また、偏光角度を検出することでより高容量のホログラムメモリシステムを実現することも目標であり、今年は偏光角度検出を行なうVLSI部の試作に取り組んだ。0.18μm スタンダードCMOSプロセスを用いて、偏光方向を検出可能なフォトダイオードを試作し、その特性評価を行なった。その結果、実際に偏光角度の検出が可能であることを試験的に実証した。この試作では、いくつかのタイプの偏光方向検出フォトダイオードを作り、特性評価を行なった。概ね、波長依存、感度差も少なく、設計に自由度があることが確認できた。当初は、偏光角度を検出可能なフォトダイオードはメタルのスリットが入ることから感度が落ちることを予測していたが、通常のフォトダイオードと比較してもほぼ互角の感度が実現でき、偏光検出が感度の点でデメリットにならないことを実証した。ただし、偏光角度を検出するときの偏光角度感度は小さく、検出における時間分解能は高くなくてはならない。
この度は初回の試作チップにトラブルが発生し、1つ目のチップが正常に動作せず、急遽2つ目のチップを試作し、試験を実施した。よって、研究が少々遅れることになり、研究成果発表が後ろにずれ込むことになった。今後、本試験結果に関する成果発表を行なう予定である。
