Outline of Final Research Achievements |
To study how placental formation is epigenetically regulated, differences between invasive and non-invasive placentation were studied. In invasive placentation, a transcription factor Cited2 in rat trophoblast Rcho cells was down-regulated, resulting in the differentiation of spongiotrophoblast, instead of trophoblast giant cells. In non-invasive trophoblast, trophoblasts in elongated conceptuses used mechanisms associated with lymphocyte homing, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and endogenous retroviruses for their fusogenic activity, all of which have been published.
