Research Abstract

昨年度は、ポリマー光ファイバ(POF)中のブリルアン散乱を用いた歪・温度分布センシング実現のための基礎として、以下のような種々の成果を収めた:(1) テーパー加工を施したPOF中のブリルアン特性の解明、(2) POF中のブリルアン散乱信号の増強手法の開発、(3) POF中のブリルアン特性の広域温度特性の解明、(4) POF中の光ファイバヒューズ現象の観測と特性解明、(5) POF中の誘導ブリルアン散乱(SBS)の簡易測定法の開発、(6) POF中の欠陥の高速検出法の開発、など。以下、それぞれについて詳述する。
(1) POFに熱を加えながら延伸することで、テーパー形状に加工することに成功した。さらにテーパー加工したPOF中のブリルアン散乱信号を観測することで、テーパー加工により信号が増強することとブリルアン周波数シフト(BFS)が減少することを明らかにした。これは、POFが歪のみならず温度も「記憶」できる可能性を示唆する。(2) POFとシリカ単一モードファイバとの間にシリカ多モードファイバを挿入することによってPOF端面の損傷を回避し、信号増強のための高パワーパルスの入射を可能にした。(3) POF中のブリルアン信号をマイナス160度から125度までの広い温度範囲で測定し、POFセンサが低温でも利用可能であることを示すとともに、高温ではBFSが非線形な温度依存性を示すことを明らかにした。(4) POF中の光ファイバヒューズを観測し、ガラスファイバ中よりも1~2桁遅い伝搬速度や180倍小さい閾値パワー密度を有することを明らかにした。(5) 従来必須であったロックイン検波を用いないSBSの観測に成功し、時間領域解析法の実現可能性を示した。(6) 赤外放射温度計を用いることで、POF中の欠陥をリアルタイムかつ低コストで検出する手法を開発した。

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

まず、申請書に記載した研究目的のうち最重要事項である「テーパー加工によるPOF中のブリルアン散乱信号の増強」を達成することができた。また、信号増強だけではなく、ブリルアン周波数シフトが減少するという新たな現象を観測することができた。これはPOFが歪のみならず温度をも「記憶」できる可能性を示しており、POFセンサの将来性を大きく拓くものであると考えられる。さらに、テーパー加工の実験を進める過程で、従来の常識を覆すPOFヒューズ現象の観測・特性解明にも至った。その他にも、数多くの意義深い研究成果が得られている。以上の理由から、本研究は当初の計画以上に進展しているといえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後の推進方策としては、(1) POFのテーパー加工法の改善、(2) POF中のブリルアン散乱を用いた歪・温度分布測定の実現、(3) POFの温度の「記憶」機能に関する特性解明、(4) POFヒューズ現象のメカニズムの解明、などが挙げられる。以下、それぞれの詳細を記す。
(1) POFのテーパー加工については昨年度に成功したものの、現状ではテーパー加工できるファイバ長は12 cmと短い。今後は、少なくとも数m以上の長距離に渡ってテーパー加工する手法を開発し、信号対雑音比が高く測定レンジも比較的長いPOFセンサの実現可能性を提示したい。(2) POF中のブリルアン散乱を用いた歪・温度分布測定を実現することが急務である。昨年度にハイパワーパルス入射によるPOF端面の損傷を回避する手法およびロックイン検波を用いずに誘導ブリルアン散乱を検出する手法を開発したので、時間領域法が適用できると思われる。また、私が以前提案した相関領域法による実現も併せて進める。(3) 昨年度にPOFが温度に関しても「記憶」機能を有する可能性を示したので、今後はその詳細を調査する。様々な温度下に、様々な時間だけ保持し、周波数シフトの温度・時間依存性を測定する。(4) POFヒューズの発生や伝搬のメカニズム解明が必要である。放射スペクトルを解析して輝点の温度を調査したり、様々な条件下でヒューズの発生・伝搬や伝搬後の軌跡を比較したり、伝搬の様子を高速度カメラで撮影をしたりする予定である。ヒューズ後のPOFの再生法や工学応用についても模索する。

Expenditure Plans for the Next FY Research Funding

まず、当初予定していた共同研究先であるAlnair LabsでのPOFのテーパー加工実験が海外のフィラメント製造会社の都合で延期となり、高価なフィラメントの購入に至らなかったことが挙げられる。フィラメントに類似した構造を大学の工場で安価に作製することで代用したが、特性は十分ではない。また、研究を推進する過程でPOFヒューズという極めて魅力的な新たな現象を観測することができたため、この現象の特性調査やメカニズム解明に当初の予定よりも多くの時間を使用したことも挙げられる。この調査には高価な光学デバイスは必要としないものの、大量のPOFが必要となる。しかし、POF自体は極めて高価であるというわけではなく、この度次年度使用額が生じた。
フィラメント製造会社が対応し次第、フィラメントを発注し、Alnair LabsでのPOFのテーパー加工実験を進める。また、POF中のブリルアン散乱を用いた「記憶」機能を有する分布型歪・温度センサを実現し、その分解能や測定レンジ、測定速度を向上させるため、狭線幅波長可変レーザや狭線幅光フィルタ、各種可視光波長対応機器などの光学デバイスを購入する。また、POFヒューズの輝点のスペクトルを測定するため、スペクトロフォトメータを購入する。さらに、論文や国際会議での成果発表も積極的に推進する。
