Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Though case studies of boxers living in rural areas in the Philippines, this study has elucidated the impacts of sport participations of the youth through the lens of social advancement. In the country, boxing is a sport of which young people from deprived socio-economic backgrounds are interested in. Hence boxing is a strategic subject to consider the connection of sport participation and class mobility. The study makes sociological accounts in details about the boxers’ family backgrounds, life course, and future expectations. Furthermore, in the process of globalization, it is showed that some of the boxers have opportunities to work in abroad by using his skills of the sport, which is a notable finding in the study.
