Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Our results show that 1) Increased muscle strength following 6 weeks of concentric blood flow restricted (BFR) exercise was well preserved at 6 weeks of detraining, which may be primarily related to muscle hypertrophy. 2) elastic band BFR training improves muscle cross-sectional area as well as maximal muscle strength but does not negatively affect arterial stiffness in older adults. 3) Increased muscle strength/size following 12 weeks of elastic band BFR training was well maintained with a low risk of arterial stiffness after 12 weeks of detraining in older women.
