Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study focuses on the phenomenon of adaptation, which occurs in the process of the popularization of literature. The adaptation of a literary work for the screen, for example, could create a larger audience for the original literature.
Through the study of the examples of adaptation, this research reveals the relationship between literature, the audience, and society in the 1920s and 1930s.
Special attention is paid to female authors, and gender issues are also investigated.
