Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this last year, I focused on two things: 1. A qualitative analysis of the data from the questionnaire survey I had conducted in the previous year. The results showed that though there are some substantial individual differences with respect to how readers "understand" spam mails, there was much overall agreement in the specific linguist characteristics of the genre of spam. 2. I was able to get in touch with a former writer of the type of spam under observation in this project. This opened up a great opportunity to gain some first-hand insight to the producing end of spam. After a series of e-mail exchanges I was able to meet my informant in person and conduct a longer interview about his experiences. I have started analyzing these data, which will provide a valuable additional perspective to my study.
