Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I successfully completed my JSPS project. The outcome can be summarised as follows: I carried out in depth research on developments in the area of EU consumer law with the help of a networked that I introduced in the course of the project ("information network"). The network included representatives from (1) the European Commission, (2) BEUC, (3) ECC-Net and (4) legal academia in the EU. The results were published by Cambridge University Press in book format. The publication is: Wrbka, European Consumer Access to Justice Revisited (CUP, 2015). The result were disseminated at (1) conferences, (2) workshops, in (3) lectures / courses and (4) on the internet (blogs). The project showed that the developments at both the procedural and substantive law level show deficits that impair the consuer trust in cross-border EU B2C trade. To overcome this I introduced a concept that I named "access to justice 2.0". This refers to (1) third party interemdiary actions and (2) legal adjustments. Details build the basis for an upcoming study, again financed by JSPS.
