Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
With the help of Grant-in-Aid research funds I was able to acquire useful books, articles, reports and other sources on renminbi (RMB) internationalisation, including some Chinese sources, which have been invaluable for my presentations and writings on this topic. I also carried out research field trips to the UK in August 2014, as well as to Singapore in March 2015, during which I was able to gain information from meetings with scholars at the University of London and the Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, who are experts in China’s economic and financial development. I was also able to meet investment experts in Singapore to gain information about the offshore RMB trading environment and international companies’ attitudes and opinions of RMB internationalisation. As a result of my research I was able to present two research papers on RMB internationlisation at international conferences (in Beppu, Japan and in Belgrade, Serbia). One book chapter has also been published, and one more book chapter is now being drafted for publication in 2016 on this topic. This research has also contributed towards another paper on soft power which was presented in Sheffield, UK. This research has shown that it is necessary to consider China’s RMB internationalization from the perspective of its long-term identity development and political goals, rather than simply for economic and financial reasons.
