Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The main purpose of the research is to examine innovation diffusion in an emerging industry. As planned, I was able to complete a new panel dataset on biotech crop innovations. In 2014, I collected new variables such as the establishment of biosafety policies and trade between countries, which may determine the diffusion of biotech crops across countries. This research has been accepted for presentation at a Spaces of Innovation Management session of the 4th Global Conference of Economic Geographers this August 2015.

Also, the paper on the diffusion of cloud computing in emerging countries that I developed last year was published as a chapter in a book published by Wiley. Building on this paper, I presented a paper on the diffusion of ubiquitous services at the International Association for Asia Pacific Studies, and delivered a talk at the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) in India.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

I am able to collect new data for my paper on the diffusion of biotech crops using organization theories. This research has been accepted for presentation at an academic conference in 2015.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

I will run the analysis of my model using the new variables that I collected. Then, I will discuss the findings with experts from the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications to further improve my paper. After presenting and revising my paper on the diffusion of biotech crops, I will submit it for publication consideration in an academic journal.

Causes of Carryover

I participated in a network analysis workshop and sessions related to innovation diffusion in this workshop. After discussing with experts at the workshop, I identified the need for collecting new secondary data to improve my model. Hence, in 2014, I focused on collecting secondary data and improving my analysis, and moved my field study to 2015. The objective of this field research is to discuss my findings with experts in the biotech crop industry.

Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget

I will use the fund to attend international conferences and conduct research meetings with experts in the biotech crop industry to receive feedback on my analysis and discuss the implications of my research.
