Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We assessed the clinical usefulness of aberrant DNA methylation in the bowel lavage fluid (BLF) for the colorectal tumor diagnosis. We found that a panel of three genes achieved highest sensitivities to detect colorectal cancer (miR-124-3, 71.8%; LOC386758, 79.5%; SFRP1, 74.4%). A scoring system based on the number of methylated genes (M-Score) enabled CRC detection with 82% sensitivity and 79% specificity. Our data indicate that DNA methylation in BLF could be a useful biomarker for colorectal cancer screening.
