Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We investigated how the removal of understory vegetation, Sasa nipponica, affect the material dynamics and soil animals in forest ecosystems. Removal of understory induced drought and increased nutrients in surface soils on both larch and oak stands. The litterfall of larch did not affected, whereas that of oak increased by understory removal. Understory act both as nutrient competitor and as protective companion with overstory trees.
