Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We found that the plant-derived cysteine protease, which is homologous to house dust mite protease, induce production of IL-33 by lung epithelial cells, resulting in development of allergic eosinophilic airway inflammation. We also found that IL-33 can play an anti-inflammatory/immunosuppressive negative-feedback role by inducing regulatory T cells through mast cells while promoting allergic inflammation through innate lymphoid cells
