Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Several methods for heightening and sustaining the antidepressant effect of wake therapy (sleep deprivation) have recently been reported. In this study, we investigated the effect of repeated sleep deprivation combined with bright light therapy on drug-resistant depression. Our treatment protocol resulted in a sustained antidepressant effect on drug-resistant depression. No special equipment is needed for wake therapy; therefore, it could be a new treatment option for drug-resistant depression in both psychiatric hospitals and clinics.
