Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The development of an image processing protocol, which allows region specific measurement of OEF in the human brain, was developed and published in the Journal of Neuroimaging. Subsequent efforts focused on the development of an ASL imaging technique for cerebral blood flow (CBF) and when combined with OEF images; the subsequent measurement of cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2). Due to a number of technical limitations on the 7T MRI system, ASL imaging was not successfully performed and therefore CBF and CMRO2 values could not be measured. Instead, the research focus changed to that of a novel ASL technique for 3T scanning. This work we tested SWI and ASL using Look locker readout with multi-banding. We discovered a number of limitations with this approach due to the complexity of image reconstruction. However, this collaborative work is ongoing and will hopefully lead to fruitful results later this year.
