Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The current research study aimed to study the influence of aging on voiding function based on the bladder and residual urine volumes obtained from urine flow and ultrasound bladder volume measurements under the condition of spontaneous voiding. It also evaluated the relationship between autonomic nervous responses. The subjects were young and elderly women without any existing voiding disorders and elderly women who had mild micturition problems. In this study that investigated the voiding function of elderly and young women, the length of the void time was longer for the elderly female subjects compared to the young women. The heart rate at the time of voiding, which was measured using the noninvasive electrocardiogram , decreased by 3 and 7 beats/min in the young and elderly women, respectively. However, some of the elderly subjects had no decrease in HR during micturition, which suggests a reduction in the parasympathetic activity related to the innervation of the urinary system.
