Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The aim of our project is to investigate the dynamic behavior of porous coordination polymers under stimuli (gas or light) using the X-ray Free Electron Laser at SACLA. In FY 2014, we attempted the photodimerization of [Mn(bdc)(dpe)] in April 2014 by shining laser light at 350 nm and attempting to reveal change in structure via XFEL. However, no noticeable change in structure was observed. In March 2015 we moved our gas dosing equipment to SACLA and carried out in-situ gas adsorption and structural studies with XFEL. The PCP chosen was [Cu(C3F7-isophtalate)]. We were able to obtain time resolved diffraction patterns at 30 Hz under CO pressure, albeit with a narrow angle range (4 degree 2 theta) imposed by the limitation of our MPCCD detector. We shall study more PCPs to increase our understanding of gate opening/breathing phenomena.
