Outline of Final Research Achievements

We performed a basic research aimed to develop the subtyping of cytomegalovirus (CMV) based on its pathogenicity related tropism. Multiple trials were performed by using two herpes simplex virus type 1 strains with difference of sorivudine (BVara-U) sensitivity. Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is often observed in children with congenital CMV infection. We analyzed the CMV infecting site in ears by establishing mouse model of CMV-induced SNHL.
