Outline of Annual Research Achievements

高圧下で相変態する純金属のTiやZrおよび半導体のSiやGeに高圧ねじり(HPT)加工や高圧スライド(HPS) 加工を施し、付与圧力や導入ひずみ量の相変態挙動に及ぼす影響を調べた。また、新たにZnOの酸化物でもHPT加工することで、高圧相が生成することを確認した。変態挙動の解析には、硬度試験、電気抵抗測定、X線回折、透過電子顕微鏡を用いた。
TiやZrの純金属では、HPT加工で2GPaの変態以下の圧力であるにもかかわらず事前にひずみを導入することで変態相(ω相)が形成し易いことをこれまでの研究で明らかにした。本年度は、この事前ひずみは高圧下でのみ有効か調べるとともに、そのひずみ量依存性についても調べた。その結果、事前ひずみは圧力の有無にかかわらずω相の変態に効果的であることが分かった。また、ひずみ量に依存してω相への変態量が多くなることが分かった。
Siにおいてもひずみ量に応じて変態し易く、圧力を6GPaに下げても変態することが分かった。ドープ量を変えたSiでも同様の相変態挙動が観察されたが、常圧下で残ったS-IIIの準安定相が金属的であることから、電気伝導性はひずみが導入されているにも関わらず、著しく増加した。
ZnOの酸化物は、常温常圧下では安定なWurtzite型(六方晶)構造をとるが、6GPaでのHPT加工でNaCl型(立方晶)構造に相変態し、抜圧状態でも室温で観察することができた。この立方晶のZnOはバンドギャップが1.8 eVで可視光でも光を吸収できる光触媒機能が発現することが分かった。
本年度も国際ワークショップを福岡市内で開催し、関連分野の研究者を招聘して圧力相変態について最新情報を交換した。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

これまでの研究より、Ti, Zrのω相への変態は、印加圧力をはじめ、ひずみ導入量、ひずみ導入後の保持時間、操作温度によって大きく影響を受けることを明らかにした。特に事前のひずみ導入はω相の形成に効果的で、必ずしも圧力付与は必要ではなく、導入ひずみ量に大きく依存することが分かった。これより、ω相の微細分散による高強度化は、圧延などの一般的な加工法で事前にひずみを導入しておくことでより効果的に実現できることが示された。
一方、Si半導体においては、ドープ量に依存せず相変態が生じ、また、金属的な電気伝導性の高いSi-IIIの準安定相が大量に存在することから、Siの電気伝導制御が容易にできることが示された。高分解能電子顕微鏡観察によればナノ結晶粒が形成されていることから、フォノン散乱が起こり易い状態にあり、新たに熱電機能を有するSi半導体が生成できることが示された。
ZnOの酸化物では、バンドギャップが可視光線に対応できる高圧相のNaCl型構造を室温で安定に存在させることができるようになった。これより、可視光に対応した光触媒機能が新たに付与できることが示された。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

TiやZrではω相への相変態に及ぼす因子を明らかにすることができたことから、強度や延性が向上できる最適条件の確立を目指し、本研究が目標とする、添加元素を要しない、高圧相を利用した高強度・高延性の純Tiや純Zrの作製を目指す。SiやGeではドープ量を変えさらに準安定相Si-IIIの金属的性質を利用して熱電特性に優れた半導体材料の作製を目指す。また、セラミックスでの高圧相がどこまで光触媒として有効利用できるかについてアルミナを対象に調査を進める。一方で繰越予算や追加予算で新たに構築したSPring-8でのその場観察技術を活用して変態相の生成・消滅について調べ、そのメカニズムを明らかにし、各種特性との関係を明らかにする。
関連の研究成果は随時学術論文や学会・研究会で発表するとともに、本年度も海外から関連の研究者を招聘し、国際ワークショップを開催する予定である。
