| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
本研究は、当初の計画とおり、観測的研究である「近傍銀河のCO吸収線サーベイ観測」と、機器開発研究である「遠方銀河観測を目指した分光器の基礎開発」の２つのテーマを軸としており、両テーマの密接な連携のもと、研究を進めている。
このうち、観測的研究である「近傍銀河のCO吸収線サーベイ観測」については、平成28年度には赤外線天文衛星「あかり」と米国の Spitzer 衛星による観測の結果の解析を27年度に続き進めた。そのうち、「あかり」による分光観測については、平成27年度までに確立した「グリズム２次光の影響を含む校正方法」を、より長期間（液体ヘリウム枯渇後のフェーズ３を含む）まで適用し、信頼のおける波長領域を従来よりも長波長に拡大することができた。これに基づき、「あかり」観測のサンプル数を増やし、そのデータの解析を含めた。さらに、米国Spitzer衛星の結果も解析した。両者をあわせて解析を行った結果、CO吸収線からもとめる温度と柱密度の信頼性を高めることができた。さらに、本結果を補う形で、星形成の指標であるスペクトル線（Brα、PAH)の解析、さらに銀河環境が星形成に与える影響を調べた。
一方、機器開発研究である「遠方銀河観測を目指した分光器の基礎開発」については、平成28年度には、イマージョン・グレーティングの常温での性能評価を昨年度から継続して進めた。その結果、グレーティングとしてはほぼ理論とおりの性能が得られた。ただし、反射コーティングが想定とおりの性能を示しておらず、改善が必要であることがわかった。また、材料自身の透過率の測定とその物理解釈を進め、投稿論文として発表した。

Reason
本研究の第一の柱である「近傍銀河のCO吸収線サーベイ観測」については、グリズム２次光の影響を含めた新しい較正方法を「あかり」観測の全期間に適用し、これにより、「あかり」搭載分光器を用いたCO吸収線サーベイのサンプルの拡大に成功した。これは、当初は期待されていなかった効果を明らかにしたものであり、当初の計画以上に進展した成果といえる。さらに、この結果を用いて、銀河中心核周りの分子ガスの温度と柱密度推定の信頼性を向上することができた。これは当初予定していたとおりの進捗である。
一方、第二の柱である「遠方銀河観測を目指した分光器の基礎開発」については、平成28年度に反射コーティングに問題があることがわかったが、その対策を講じており挽回可能であると想定している。一方、材料の透過率の評価については、新しい知見もあり、当初の想定以上の進捗を示した。
したがって、全体としては、おおむね当初の予定通り順調に研究が進行したと判断している。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
観測研究である「近傍銀河のCO吸収線サーベイ観測」については、以下の２点の方向で研究を推進する。
(1)「あかり」データについて、平成28年度に確立した校正方法を適用することにより、従来解析を行ってきた Phases 1, 2 (液体ヘリウム冷却期間)に加えて、Phase 3 （機械式冷凍機冷却期間）のデータを用いることにより、観測サンプル数を増やす。これに、今までに確立した解析方法を適用し、分子ガスの温度と柱密度を正確に求める。
(2)「あかり」データに加えて、「すばる」による高分解のデータの解析を進める。
これらの研究により、銀河中心核近傍の分子トーラスの物理状態と成因の解明を目指す。
開発研究である「遠方銀河観測を目指した分光器の基礎開発」については、まずはグレーティング表面の反射コーティングについて、平成２８年度に明らかになった問題の改善に取り組む。これにより、素子単独のレベルとして、イマージョン・グレーティングの成立性を実証することを目指す。
