Ferroelectric and magnetic double-helices in low-dimensional nanostructures and their mechanical coupling

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

磁性強誘電体(マルチフェロイクス)のバルク材中の強誘電性と磁性は共存するものの、それらの相互作用は比較的弱く、互いに直線的な性質を有している。ところが、マルチフェロイクスの構造体寸法がナノスケールになると、両物性間に強い非線形相互作用が現れ、渦状やらせん状など特徴的な分極・磁気モーメントが現れる。本研究では、ナノ・マルチフェロイクスの低次元形状に依存して発現する特異な磁性・強誘電性を解明することを目的とする。さらに、負荷ひずみに対する同特性の連動作用(マルチフィジックス)の究明を目指す。

最終年度である平成28年度は、まず、(1)ナノ・マルチフェロイクス中での電気的・磁気的分布を解析し、構造体内部の反電場等を解析した。(2)この反電場等と電子状態から、らせん状や渦状などの特性は、表面部分に発現する表面電荷による反電場の影響を緩和するよう原子配置が変形することで生じるものであることを示した。特に、Bi-O間に生じる孤立電子対や共有結合がナノ構造体での同特性変化を支配していることも明らかにしている。(3)磁性・強誘電性間に生じる相互作用を定式化し、力学-磁性-強誘電性が相互作用するマルチフェロイクスの力学モデルを作り、(4)それを現有のPhase-fieldプログラムへと実装した。これを用いた解析により、ナノ・マルチフェロイクスでは、マクロ材と比較して、数桁大きい磁性-強誘電性相互作用(巨大な電気磁気効果)を示すことを明らかにした。(5)これらの研究成果をまとめ、英文著書「Multi-physics in Nanostructures」を執筆しており、近いうちに出版予定である。
