原子分解能電場計測STEM法を用いた極性酸化物界面の局所ポテンシャル構造解析

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、申請者らが近年開発した原子分解能電場計測走査透過電子顕微鏡法(STEM)を用いてセラミックス界面の局所電場及び静電ポテンシャル構造を直接解析し、セラミックス界面における機能発現メカニズムを本質的に解明することを目指している。特に、本研究では強誘電体セラミックス及び圧電セラミックスなどの極性酸化物セラミックスの界面に着目し、その局所電場プロファイルをナノメーターオーダーで実空間観察することにより、界面における電場変調、電荷分布、静電ポテンシャル構造を実験的に直接明らかにする。これにより、極性酸化物セラミックスの界面機能発現の根本メカニズム解明にブレークスルーを与えるとともに、最近発見された極性酸化物ヘテロ界面における特異な電気伝導現象の起源解明にも挑戦する。
本年度は、原子分解能電場計測STEM法において電場を定量的に計測するための実験的な最適化を行った。具体的には、最適な検出器角度、検出器回転方向の検討、検出器レスポンス及び電子光学系(超高分解能から超高感度まで)の構築を行い、これまで難しかった超高感度な電場計測を可能にした。またこれらの光学系をフレキシブルにチューニング可能なシステムを構築した。また、この手法を用いたLiTaO3ドメイン界面やGaN系極性界面などの観察を行い、界面の電場プロファイルの計測に成功している。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

H26年度は①極性単結晶における原子分解能電場計測STEM法の定量化,②極性結晶における原子分解能電場計測STEM法の理論解析,③モデル界面試料の作製と局所ポテンシャル構造評価を3つの主要研究テーマとして独立に取り組み、研究を推進した。いずれのテーマに関しても概ね期待通りの進捗があり、全体としてスムーズに進んでいる。特に①と③に関しては、当初の期待以上の成果が出始めており、国内外でも注目が集まっている。その証左として、招待講演などの依頼が非常に多かった。極性界面に関しては、外部研究者、企業との共同研究もスタートしており、観察すべきモデル界面が順調に集まっている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

来年度は引き続き上記①~③の研究を推進し、極性界面の特異な電子現象の起源となる2次元電子ガスや固定電荷の実空間観察を目指した研究を行う。また、すべての結果を総合することにより、原子分解能電場計測STEM法の確立と極性界面ポテンシャル構造の解明に資する研究を推進する。

共同研究先からの試料提供などがあり、試料作製用消耗品の支出が予定より少し減ったため。

次年度では、申請者独自の極性界面試料作製を前年以上に推進するため、消耗品に充当して利用する予定である。
