Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Phylogeographical analysis was condutced for various mollusks inhabiting shallow water and deep sea in Japan and adjacent Asia. As a result, many species were found to have certain geographical structure, but the location of geographical boundaries is variable from species to species. Infraspecific populations of some species are divided on the Pacific and the Sea of Japan sides or between the Northeast and Southwest Japan, and other species exhibit species-specific geographical patterns. Our studies revealed that the formation pattern of populations is not uniform, even among species pairs with similar distribution areas.
