Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Some people discover something attractive while they are walking in a town, whereas others pass by without even noticing it. The ability to discover something valuable by chance is called serendipity. This discovery, however, is not made by chance and this ability is accomplished by a certain mechanism. This study was carried out to elucidate this mechanism. Information is considered to be processed in a cycle which consists of perception, interest, image and action. In other words, people obtain information from surroundings selectively, reconstruct the information based on their attitude, create their own idea of the town using the interest and are led to a new direction by the image. The each processing is analyzed based on experimental data and comparison between Japanese and non-Japanese and between residents and visitors were made.
