Outline of Final Research Achievements |
As oxygen is consumed in brain, reactive oxygen species are generated and are predicted to be a cause of alzheimer disease. In this research, we studied oxidation of RNA and removal of the oxidative RNA. Human Auf1 protein, a oxidative RNA specific binding protein, was examined whether it had roles in the induction of apoptosis. It was found that Auf1 protein played a role in oxidative RNA degradation. In cells lacking Auf1 protein, apoptosis was repressed. In yeast, Gtr1 protein was found to be involved in excretion of ROS.
