Outline of Final Research Achievements |
To solve the difficulties on promoting the geologic results for the students as well as citizens, I made three-dimensional analog model of basement structure below the sedimentary plains of the Kanto, Nobi, Kyoto and Osaka areas. The horizontal scale of models is 1/200,000 but vertical scale is emphasized as 400%. I also made three-dimensional analog model of basement structure below the Nakagawa Lowland (horizontal: 1/50,000, vertical: 1/1,000) and central Tokyo (horizontal: 1/10,000, vertical: 1/500) in the Kanto Plain. These models were painted by gradations in color from yellow (Shallow) to dark blue (deep), so that it can easily be recognized the contrast between subsurface steep precipice and gentle slope of basement structure. The analog model of basement structure below the sedimentary plains would be helpful to understand why long-period and short-period ground motions of the earthquakes are amplified in such incised-valley.
