Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research clarifies transcendentalism in S.T. Coleridge, one of the great critics of the English Romantic Age, and Kukai, the founder of Japanese Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. Accorindg to Coleridge, religion requires "contemplation of the universal" as it enables us to overcome selfishness and behave as "the one in all" through Kantian aesthetic disinterestedness. For both Coleridge and Kukai, our will and volition to visualize the reality of "I being with the Infinite" prove our transcendental aethetic faculty to see“through and with, but never by the senses.”Their common aim of writing was to lead people to the everyday experiences of the real absolute joy of visualizing "I in all."

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
