Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Two research meetings took place in FY3: in Osaka in May 2016 and in Yamagata in February 2017.
The May 2016 meeting looked further at the two questions (1) do nasal or voiced consonants at the end of the first element trigger rendaku more often than others? and (2) do second elements beginning in ha-gyo undergo rendaku more often than others. Data was checked and a start was made on preparing presentations. Both proposals were subsequently accepted: (2) was presented at the European Association of Linguistics Conference at Kobe University in September 2016; (1) was presented at the Phonology Festa at Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, in March 2017. The May 2016 meeting also considered a 2017-2019 kakenhi proposal for continuing our research.
The February 2017 meeting looked at final preparation for the presentation of (1) (see above) and planning future research should kakenhi funding fail to materialize. Right throughout FY3, a student at Osaka Jogakuin carried out database input, as in FY2.
