Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have found thatJapanese and Korean have no genealogical relationship in terms of pitch accent because Proto-Japanese is most likely to have had pitch accent, whereas Old Korean did not have any type of accent system.
Although, there was no genetic relationship in accent between the two languages, there was a hitorical relationship as a Pre-Japanese substratum in Kogryo, Paeckche, and Silla.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

従来の朝鮮語のアクセントの歴史的変化と現在のその分布の原因を探り、朝鮮語の親言語である朝鮮祖語と扶余祖語はアクセントがなかったことを検証し、その後、その地域により中心的言語が（高句麗語、新羅語）異なるため、地域によってアクセントの分布が異なってきたことを初めて述べた。日本語の親言語である日本祖語ではアクセントがあり、朝鮮語とは全く異なることを初めて示した。さらに、日本祖語のさらにさかのぼってみると、朝鮮半島に日本語祖語のさらに古い語彙が前日本語として存在していることを示し、それが半島を北から南に移動し、最終的には日本祖語という言語として日本列島にのみ残存したことを初めて系統的に示した。
