Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
There were several adjustments to our research this year, given many rapid developments facilitating the use of Google’s Education Suite (GSE). In the first semester students used their personal Gmail addresses to access the system. In the second semester we trialed Google School addresses and the Google Classroom environment. In both cases, all students in researcher MacLean’s class are using GSE intensively. They share documents and collaborate to produce work using all four language skills. Together we are able to consider work, and it is increasingly possible to give students immediate feedback for a variety of tasks. The greatest innovations were made using Google Forms, it is now definitively possible to give students immediate feedback about their responses and an explanation of why plausible though not correct answers are wrong. Use of GSE has also been highly effective for implementing self and peer evaluation in pair, group, and presentation contexts. The purchase of an administrative console has greatly augmented to potential of this research as it has facilitated implementation in numerous ways, and it prevents students from moving or deleting shared files. We have made every effort to disseminate findings via workshops, research presentations, and publications (see below). Though implementation has consumed more time than we anticipated, we’ve generated a sizeable amount of data that will be used for upcoming publications and presentations.
