Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study analyzed the intellectuals’ transnational networks during the inter-war period with focusing on the IPR (Institute of Pacific Relations). As a result, some important political aspects were pointed out. Firstly, Japanese IPR sought to promote the “recognition” of Manchukuo by establishing Manchukuo IPR. Secondly, the Chinese Government, especially Chiang Kai-shek, utilized IPR for his foreign policy by establishing Korean (Kim Koo) IPR and Free Thai IPR. Thirdly, the Soviet Government had established Soviet IPR in 1934 to secure another channel to the United States while official US-Soviet relations deteriorated.
