Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Toward the vitalization of voluntary activism, coherent top-down initiatives are critically needed in addition to organic bottom-up efforts. With sticking to the theme of international cooperation and human resource development, this study investigates a mechanism of mobilizing youth overseas volunteers by looking into a governmental scheme in Singapore: Youth Expedition Project (YEP). Findings of this research show that YEP is actually a device for promoting decentralization and cross-sectoral collaboration. Furthermore, it is expected to trigger economic development through fostering a prospective non-profit sector; and it also contributes to formulating a renewed model of supporting local communities and organizations in developing countries. From those analyses, it is fair to say that YEP is not a mere volunteer program; rather it should be considered as a comprehensive development policy to survive this ever-globalized world.
