Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research verified the positive effects of “gratitude" on the expansion of self-cognition and the formation of interpersonal relationship. Trait gratitude was associated with subjective well-being and was found to raise state gratitude after cognition of "benefit appraisal" evoked by receiving aid. Emotional gratitude co-occurred with emotional indebtedness and stimulated empathy and enhanced prosocial behavior towards third parties. Also emotional gratitude was proved to have an effect on maintaining friendship. Furthermore, it became clear that the effect of emotional gratitude on subjective well-being could be hindered by emotional indebtedness.
