Outline of Final Research Achievements

The project aimed to investigate the process of rule-breaking behavior spread using a model of how to consider other peoples’ attitudes toward rule-breaking behavior in public places. Questionnaires and computer simulations based on this model were conducted. Simulation outputs (estimated values) had positive correlations with questionnaire (actual) data, indicating certain validity of the model. The questionnaire also showed that some obedient members affect the frequency of rule-breaking in the group.
A lesson on preventing rule-breaking was developed and conducted for undergraduate students. A questionnaire was executed to investigate effects of this lesson. After the lesson, students who considered the lesson difficulty "normal" considered rule-breaking as more negative behavior. However, students who regarded the lesson as difficult hardly changed their attitudes.
