Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examined the changes in the practice of art education at schools located in a region of Japan. It was based on the analysis of students’ artwork preserved since the Meiji era at the schools in Takaoka, Toyama. By exploring the development of art education in the 20th century, the study was able to analyze the students’ artwork and relevant documents. As a result, this study confirmed that students’ art expressions had an influence on and was reflected in the nationwide trend of the teaching practice. Also, one of the essential findings indicated the actual situation in art education, which was that after the free drawing education movement in the Taisho era, copying was reconsidered as a teaching methodology in the Showa era. It seemed the pendulum swung back from free drawing.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
