Outline of Annual Research Achievements

During the relevant fiscal year FY2017 we continued our efforts towards a unified theoretical description of cosmological inflation, dark energy and dark matter in
the early Universe, and their connection/relation to high-energy physics beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles, in the context of supergravity theory. In the FY2017 we achieved a peak of our publication activity referring to the results of the conducted research (6 refereed publications in the high-ranking international peer-reviewed journals of physics, in the Q1 and Q2 categories, according to the Web of Science). We have already achieved four out of five our main research objectives in this research project.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

We reached the main objectives of our research project started four years ago, as regards (i) viable description of cosmological inflation in supergravity theory, (ii) unification of cosmological inflation and dark energy
(represented by a de Sitter vacuum) in supergravity, (iii) spontaneous supersymmetry breaking after inflation, in the context of high-scale (broken) supersymmetry, (iv) derivation of Starobinsky-like cosmological inflation from higher dimensions, and (v) exploring realisations of inflation and dark energy in type-IIA superstrings compactified on rigid Calabi-Yau three-folds. Our results appeared in six original research papers, with Q1 or Q2 ranking (Web of Science). A limited progress was achieved in a viable description of reheating and particle production after inflation, based on our models.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

During the last (fifth) year of our research project we are going to concentrate on a theoretical investigation of reheating and particle production in the early Universe after inflation, by using the inflationary supergravity models we constructed earlier, with the spontaneous supersymmetry breaking mechanism we proposed. The dark matter, presumably described by gravitino as the lightest supersymmetric partner of the known elementary particles, will be in the focus of our research, including production of other particles in the early Universe, based on our original scenario. We are also planning to study primordial black holes as (possible) part of dark matter. Our plans include presentations of our research results at major international conferences in cosmology during the next FY2018 too.

Causes of Carryover

The 225,000 yen left from the previous FY2017 will be used during the next fiscal year FY2018 towards joint research with our collaborators in Japan and overseas, and attending international conferences for presentation of our research results.
