Electric double layer at high ionic concentrations: effects of ion-specific dielectric decrement and finite size

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

高い塩濃度における電気二重層相互作用の遮蔽距離の異常な増大について検討した.界面科学における共通の理解として,塩濃度の増加により界面電荷の遮蔽が強まり遮蔽長は小さくなる.ところが,最近,1M程度以上の高い塩濃度やイオン液体において,電気二重層の遮蔽長が増加に転じるという実験結果が報告されており,その起源について関心が高まっている.そこで,イオンの溶媒和を考慮した独自の自由エネルギーモデルを用いて,遮蔽長の塩濃度依存性を検討した.高い塩濃度では,イオンの排除体積効果もしくは誘電率減少効果のいずれかによって遮蔽対イオンの飽和の発現するが,それに伴って遮蔽領域は飽和領域とデバイ領域の2つの寄与が現れ,濃度減衰の特性長が高塩濃度で増加することがわかった.遮蔽長の増加現象はイオン液体やその溶液系におけるコロイド安定性や,高塩濃度電解質の特性に直接関係する.本研究成果は高塩濃度の電気二重層についての基礎的知見を与える.
コロイド粒子の電気泳動について,高い電場における非線形応答を検討した.塩濃度が低い極限においては,対イオン凝集と電場による対イオンストリッピングが競合する.最近,高い電場における電気泳動易動度の増加と飽和が実験的に報告されているが,その物理機序は未解明である.そこで,コロイド流動の直接数値計算を用いて,非線形応答領域における易動度どイオンダイナミクスを検討し,非線形応答の出現とイオン拡散係数への依存性を明らかにした.この知見は,高ペクレ数なマイクロ流動への基礎的な知見を与える.
