High Piezoelectricity in Sustainable Materials from Viewpoints of Elastic Constants

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

(100)0.70Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)TiO3-0.30PbTiO3(PMNT70/30)圧電単結晶板(長さ20.7×幅14.0×厚さ0.39 mm) 及びPMNT70/30圧電セラミック円板(直径20×厚さ1.0 mm)の厚み方向(分極方向)に伝搬する音速[縦波(VL)・横波(VS)]を測定した。測定には縦波(周波数30/20 MHz)・横波(20/5 MHz)を発振するPZTトランスデューサからなる超音波厚さ計(オリンパス製35DL)を用い、音速より弾性定数[ヤング率(Y)・ポアソン比(σ)・剛性率(G)・体積弾性率(K)]を求めた。
単結晶板6サンプルの面内6ヶ所、合計36ヶ所でのY, σと圧電d33定数との関係を調べた。4枚の単結晶板ではVL, VSのバラツキは殆どなく、一方、他2枚ではVL, VSのバラツキが見られた。Y, σ vs. d33から弾性定数に関して、ドメイン配列の異なる2グループ(単一ドメインと配向ドメイン配列)に分かれた。これらバラツキはインピーダンスの周波数特性及び透過型光学顕微鏡クロスニコル下での面内の不均一からも確認できた。このことは面内に結晶粒界に対応するようなドメイン境界が存在することを意味し、Y (G)の増加、σ (K)の減少に相当していた。PMNT70/30圧電単結晶板、PMNT70/30セラミック円板の音速と電気機械結合係数kとの関係より、PMNTセラミックスでは単結晶に比べ、VLは100 m/s, VSは1,000 m/s低下した。これら変化は結晶粒界の導入によるものと考えられ、Y, Gの低下、σ, Kの上昇に繋がっていた。更に、σは分極前後でPMNT単結晶では0.00(前)→ 0.16(後)、PMNTセラミックスでは0.36(前)→0.40(後)となり、弾性定数の観点からも圧電性発現のメカニズムが異なることを示唆していた。
