Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the fiscal year of 2015, following experiments were conducted. 1. Determination of physical properties of root cell wall of tomato. The salt sensitive and tolerant tomato cultivar, Naomi and Daniela, were cultivated under saline condition with calcium addition to the culture solution. The root tips (0-10 mm) of all seedlings were collected and the viscosity, elasticity and extensibility were measured. Data show that under saline condition, the extensibility of root tips were generally decreased. The viscosity and elasticity of the root tips also showed a decreasing tendency. These results may partially explain the decreased growth of roots under saline condition. With calcium addition to the culture solution, the extensibility of root tips showed no significant changes. 2. Determination of chemical properties of root cell wall of cotton. Salt tolerant cultivar of cotton was cultivated under saline conditions. After three weeks salinity treatment, roots were collected and cation exchange capacities of the samples were measured. Generally, with salinity treatments, the cation exchange capacities were increased, indicating that cell wall has some functions on cation transport. 3. Determination of chemical properties of root cell wall of halophyte Suaeda salsa. Suaeda salsa is a high salt-tolerant plant. The chemical composition of root cell wall has been measured and data are now under analyzing. The samples of root tips for physical measurement were collected for further measurement.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
First, the experiments conducted this year were all based on the research plan. Second, because almost all methods and procedures for the measurements have been established last year, so the experiments were smoothly carried out.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The future studies will be based on the research plan. Some results are not consistent with our expectation, so we need to repeat some experiments and use more plants as experimental materials to confirm the results. This will increase the workload next year. Besides, we have found some new subjects that may related to plant salt tolerance. We will try to explore these subjects in depth in the next year.
|
Causes of Carryover |
This research wll be continuted in the next year. For carring out the research plant, experiments will be conducted and the related fees (consumers, business trips, publication, personnel cost) will be necessary.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
Usage plan will be based on the research plan.
