Outline of Final Research Achievements

Abnormal glucose metabolism in cancer cells is known to be a major factor in cancer development. As a condition of diabetes, we investigated whether carbohydrate-specific carbohydrate metabolism abnormality induced EMT (Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition) in hyperglycemic state promotes activation of cancer stem cells and enhances cancer invasion and metastasis. In addition, it also suggested that hyperglycemic state could affect the activation of cancer stem cells. Moreover, It was suggested that hyperglycaemic cancer cells have increased invasion and metastasis in vivo.
