Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have been developing a novel hearing-aid for the profoundly hearing-impaired using bone-conducted ultrasonic perception (Bone-conducted ultrasonic hearing-aid: BCUHA). In such a profoundly hearing-impaired, auditory feedback, i.e., a functional loop between auditory perception and speech production, often declines. Auditory feedback is an important aid during speech acquisition by toddlers, who use it to control the learning of speech items. In this study, we developed a speech training system using a BCUHA for the profoundly hearing-impaired children.
