Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We first examined how exposure of skeletal muscle cells to hypoxic environment affects muscle differentiation (Study 1). In Study 2, based on the results of Study 1, we examined the usefulness of resistance training under hypoxic environment to muscle hypertrophy in human in vivo. In Study 1, muscle differentiation was delayed or inhibited under a severe hypoxic condition, whereas hypertrophy of skeletal muscle fibers was observed under a mild hypoxic condition. In Study 2, resistance training load (load and repetition) was not changed in an appropriate hypoxic condition.
