Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The main purpose of this research is to discover what leadership skills organizations in Japan and Japanese people view as important. In exploring characteristics of leadership, in particular diversity management and creativity, this research has three aims as follows: 1) to discover what characteristics Japanese and non-Japanese organizations value when choosing employees, especially when dealing with diversity issues and creativity 2) to discover how Japanese young adults and parents view diversity, creativity and other leadership qualities 3) to discover what the connections exist between diversity management and creativity as leadership qualities
During the Spring 2014-2015, we conducted a literature review on leadership development, diversity management and cultural values. We also created a survey and interview questions and conducted a pilot study with Japanese university students. In addition, we conducted a trial interview with a corporate manager.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
In the beginning, we had some difficulties finding and choosing appropriate questionnaires for our needs. However, we were able to create possible questions for our surveys and do a pilot study with our target population. We were also able to meet with a corporate manager and conduct an interview.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
During the first half of 2015, we plan to analyse data from the pilot study surveys and revise survey questions, administer our survey to 200 student participants and conduct interviews with 2 corporate managers of Japanese companies.
During the Second Half of 2015 and Spring of 2016, we plan to conduct interviews with 5 -10 student participants and conduct interviews with 3 managers of Japanese corporations and 2 managers of non-Japanese corporations.
