Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、変成堆積岩に含まれる砕屑性ジルコンのU-Pb年代測定と精密化学分析を組織の観察が可能な薄片上で行い、年代値と堆積環境を明らかにし、ジルコン年代学に新しい視点を導入することを目的として実施した。最初の２年間で、手法の技術的な問題点の抽出と改善を行い、最終年度で実際の測定と結果の考察を行った。
具体的な手法として、先行研究により同じK-Ar年代を有する３ヶ所の地域（沖縄県石垣島、長崎県野母半島、山口県錦町）に分布する高圧低温型変成岩類の野外での地質調査と試料採取、室内での試料処理、及び九州大学におけるLA-ICP-MS使用によるジルコンの年代測定と精密化学分析の実施を行った。特に、薄片上でジルコンの年代測定法の開発を重点的に実施した。しかし、薄片上でのジルコンの年代測定は、薄片面上に分布するジルコンの露出面積が必ずしも最大面積にはならず、このことが分析に適した大きさ（直径30μ以上）の露出面積を持つジルコンの分布頻度を悪くし、結果的に、分析ジルコン数を確保できないという問題が生じた。そのため、岩石を粉砕してジルコンを取り出して、樹脂に埋め込んで、研磨して年代測定するという従来の方法の併用も実施した。
このように一部手法の変更はあったが、最終年度までに得られたデータ（６試料）と先行研究のデータの引用から、以下の考察を行うことができた。まず、測定結果として、当該地域の変成岩類には25億年前以降の様々な年代の砕屑性ジルコンが含まれているが、いずれの地域でも最も若い砕屑性のジルコン年代として2.0-2.2億年前の年代が得られた。
これらの結果から、約2.5億年前の南北中国地塊の南北性の大陸衝突以降の北東アジア縁辺部は、東西性の海洋地殻の沈み込みの場になり、本研究で対象とした３地域の変成岩はその沈み込みに関連した低温高圧型変成テクトニクスに起因することが明らかになった。
