Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this research, I conducted a pilot study. The objectives of the pilot study are: 1) discovering the suitable simulation topic among ICT products, systems, and services; 2) testing the reliability of research design; and 3) validating methodological appropriateness. During the pilot study, I invited ten participants and performed a laboratory experiment with five simulations. Based on this, I decided the topic of ‘applications for sharing economy’ as the simulation topic for the participants.
Based on this, I invited firstly twenty participants for the simulation and secondly twentyy more participants for the simulations, using my social network and social networking applications (e.g. LinkedIn). With the participants, I conducted ten sets of simulations so far. Following that, I will conduct ten more simulations for this study from now. For the data analysis part, I followed a grounded theory approach and analyzed their communication patterns and protocols during the process of design innovation.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
This research project has been conducted appropriately. In particular, I have completed theoretical development parts. As a result, a series of papers have been released by international conferences (e.g. DESRIST, PACIS, AMCIS, and DEWS). As an empirical approach, I tested diverse pilot studies in order to increase the quality of study with a well-organized research setting for my laboratory experiment. During this process, I changed conditions and some environments from the original research setting. Based on this preliminary study, I wrote a working paper and will be submited to ICIS 2015. For a fully expanded laboratory experiment study, I already invited whole participants for this research project.
As an alternative laboratory experiment study, it simulates actual people on Skype. From the pilot study, I realized that it requires more time that I expected. One simulation calls for three hours (180 minutes) in average. Yet, every experiment can be finished, summarized, and sent to certain journals and coferences.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In this academic year (2015-2016), this study will conduct as follows. First of all, all the laboratory experiment simulations would be completed by August, 2015. Following that, this study will highlightthe following two things: 1) data analysis and 2) research outcomes and future directions.
To analyze data, the audio-recorded simulations will be transcribed (August ~ October. 2015). Based on the transcripts, I will analyze the data using a grounded theory approach (Strauss & Corbin, 1990). As a result, the empirical data will determine which design protocol is more effective in creating better design outcomes.
With these outcomes, I will focus on writing papers in order to submit conference and journal papers during this fiscal year (2015~2016). During Sep. 2015-Mar. 2016, I will focus on writing several academic papers based on the results and conclusions. Also, I will identify diverse future research directions for expanding the boundaries of current research. Based on this project, the resulted papers will be submitted and presented in information systems research conferences (e.g. DESRIST 2016, AMCIS 2016, PACIS 2016, ICIS 2015-6, and HICSS 2015-6) and IS journals (e.g. MISQ, JAIS, EJIS, and JAIS). Moreover, I will expand the inter-disciplinary boundaries in design and other management research communities (e.g. ICED, International Journal of Design, or New Product Development Journals in Marketing).

Causes of Carryover |
From the last fiscal year (2014-2015), I did not use up the scheduled budget with the follwoing two reasons. First, I had plan to attend ICIS 2014, New Zealand; however, the schedule was overlapped with the Tokyo Tech Aceees Conference. Threfore, I attended Tokyo Tech Acees as a program organizer. Second, I did not fully conduct the scheduled simulations during the last fiscal year, and it will be speed up in this fiscal year.

Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
In this fiscal year (2015-2016), I will complete the experiment study and submit multiple papers to Journals and International Conferences (ICIS, HICSS, AMCIS, and PACIS). Therefore, this use this remaining budget would be very helpful to support my study and conference presentation in order to perform positive research orientations.
