Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examined health expectancies from the viewpoint of disease structures, activities of daily living (ADL), and subjective health status by using a life table approach. The findings are as follows.
First, the shares of health expectancies by various "health" definitions to life expectancy are decreasing. Second, diseases like respiratory disease, malignant neoplasm, dementia, low back pain, musculoskeletal disorders are strongly related to "poor health condition" in subjective health condition.
Therefore, as far as period analysis, the increase in life expectancy has been more than that of health expectancy in recent years, suggesting the importance of preventing these diseases will likely lead not only to an extension of life expectancies but also to a prolonged duration of healthy life years.
