Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In FY2014, after design and manufacture of the electron gun cavity based on extensive simulations all parts were assembled as planned. In FY 2015 we performed the following series of experiments; 1. leak check and pump down to ultra high vacuum condition, 2. measurement of the RF characteristics (resonant frequency, Q value etc.) of the cavity, 3. testing of electron emission under DC high electric field conditions, 4. characterization of electron emission with application of RF power.
Emission of short (<1ns), electron pulse in the RF regime has not yet been observed so we have not yet connected the test gun to the superconducting accelerator as planned. We are continuing characterization experiments in the RF regime and hope to publish a paper in FY2016 summarizing these experiments.
The gun will then be transferred to the SCA as planned.
